PBS' Annenberg Channel Announcements
Weaving strands of religion, industry, agriculture, demography, government, economics, and art, "The Western Tradition" creates a comprehensive survey, from the ancient world through the age of technology. The series is comprised of illustrated lectures that use a total of 2,700 images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to portray key events in the development of Western thought, culture, and tradition, and is considered a classic with colleges and lifelong learners. "Economics U$A" adds additional threads of understanding, using case studies and interviews with Nobel Prize-winning economists to explore the fundamentals of economic history, theory, and practice.
Our workshops and courses provide unparalleled, authoritative professional development, and are designed to strengthen the professional credentials of educators at all levels. Workshops and courses are appropriate for preservice and inservice teachers, and are targeted to specific curricular areas and grade levels — middle school math teachers, for example. You will find training in content areas and educational theory and practice, as well as supplemental video programs called teaching practices libraries that give a "fly-on-the-wall" view of real teachers in real classrooms. Additional workshops are designed for administrators, reformers, and policymakers.
Workshops and courses consist of video, print, and Web components that can be used in group sessions or on your own. We recommend participating with a group to get the benefits from discussion with your colleagues, including participants around the country on our email discussion lists called Channel-Talk.
Participation in our workshops and courses is FREE. Video programs are broadcast on the Annenberg Channel and are available as Video on Demand (VoD) on our Web site. Print guides are downloadable in PDF format. Videocassettes and print guides are also available for purchase from our catalog. Free registration is required. We provide Certificates of Participation to those working in groups. These certificates may be used for inservice or recertification credit. Graduate credit is available for courses and most workshops for a reasonable cost.
